AN EMPTY unit on Kings Road could become a convenience store if planning permission is granted.
The owners of Pack & Send at 91-93 Kings Road moved to Milford Road in 2021. The firm specialises in couriering specialist items around the world and its new base is an industrial unit.
Reading Borough Council has received an application from Jiyana Food & Wine for a licence to sell alcohol from 7am to 11pm each day, in preparation to take the shop over.
It is understood the business also runs M&M Food & Wine store at 55-57 Wokingham Road. This is an off licence, that sells speciality Romanian, Polish, Slovakian, English and Asian food.
The Kings Road parade that the store is in already has a small newsagent and an Asian supermarket, as well as restaurants and a Turkish barber. It is opposite the Back of Beyond pub.
This licensing application has been submitted to Reading Borough Council, with the closing date for any representations being Thursday, November 9. If anyone objects, a licensing meeting will be held.
