CHALLENGES don’t get much tougher – or muddier – than this: electric shocks, ice baths, tear gas, mud, water … and a 40ft net to climb. But a team from a Berkshire-based housebuilding firm managed it all.
The Tough Mudder London West event, held earlier this month, saw 23 people from Vistry Thames Valley take on the challenge at Culden Faw Estate near Henley.
Over 10 miles, and wet weather, the volunteers tackled all 20 obstacles blocking their path to raise £1,500 for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
Trevor Wicks, managing director of Vistry Thames Valley, was part of the team.
He said: “It was a tough 10-mile race, but the hardest part was definitely the extreme hills around the course. They were an absolute killer.
“Being involved in a team and the spirit of everyone being in it together was definitely a highlight. The obstacles also produced a laugh from seeing teammates attempt them, especially the electric shocks.”
He added: “The run resulted in a lot of limping around the office on Monday. Seeing our numbers grow from only 10 participants two years ago to 23 this year is great. This has now become a tradition at Vistry Thames Valley.
“We are so proud of the amount we have raised and hope this helps SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.”
It supports members of the Armed Forces, including retired veterans and those struggling with life after leaving the forces.
Vistry Thames Valley has raised £11,350 – exceeding its target of £10,000. To achieve this sum, it has hosted a spring ball, with a raffle and an auction, and selling off some of its show home furniture.
The company is part of Vistry Group, which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes, and Countryside Homes.
