A SMALL but select band of Pangbourne Rotary Club’s eco-warriors recently cleaned up a section of the Thames.
Rotarians Bethan, Linda and Les Jones, Tilia, president James Richardson, and Brian Davies collected 14 bags of litter from a two mile stretch of the banks of the river at Caversham.
“There was nothing too exotic – no underpants or motorbikes this year,” joked Brian.
“Just cigarette butts, cans and bottles, and crisp packets.”
He says the group enjoyed a fun and rewarding morning out doing their bit to keep the river banks in good shape, and thanks Les Jones for organising the event.
Pangbourne Rotary contributes to the community through various activities and fund-raising events for charity.
Club meetings take place every Monday evening, at 41 High Street, Theale, where members can enjoy a programme of guest speakers, social activities, and outings.
The Rotarians say that they enjoy being part of a vibrant club, where they can have fun while enriching the life of others.
They are keen to hear from people of all ages, and from all walks of life to join the group, and to contribute their energy, talents, and professional skills to make a difference to the community.
The group’s next fund-raiser is also on the Thames, where the Rotarians will be Dragon Boat racing at Pangbourne Meadows on Saturday, June 14.
