AN EXPLORATION into Reading’s past is promised at a new talk taking place in the town centre on Wednesday night.
The Parish of St Giles is the topic for the latest meeting of The History of Reading Society.
Its president, Joan Dils, will look at the parish during the Reformation period in the 16th century.
At the time, the parish was urban with a substantial rural population. It was also the poorest of the borough’s parishes, despite also being home to some very wealthy families.
And, in contrast to its neighbours, it was a community which clung firmly to former religious practices.
The meeting takes place at Abbey Baptist Church in Abbey Square from 7.30pm, on Wednesday, November 15.
Doors open at 7pm, and visitors can attend for £2.
