DIGGA D has confirmed he will no longer be making an appearance at Reading Festival next week.
The UK drill artist has announced that his planned set at Reading and Leeds Festival won’t be going ahead after he was arrested on drug charges in Lincoln in February.
The musician, whose real name is Rhys Herbert, was performing while broadcasting on Instagram Live on Wednesday, February 21, when he was arrested.
In May, he pleaded guilty to a charge of smuggling cannabis, relating to an incident which took place in July last year, as well as supplying cannabis between October 2022 and February this year.
The case was then adjourned until July.
Lincoln Crown Court heard that he had imported around three kilograms of cannabis but that there was no evidence of “wider criminality.”
The prosecution, however, did not accept the basis of his pleas and instead told the court he was supplying cannabis on a “commercial” scale.
These claims were described as “bravado” by Herbert’s defence lawyers.
Herbert has been remanded in custody since his arrest and appeared in court via video link from HMP Wormwood Scrubs.
Then on the evening of Tuesday, August 13, a message appeared on Herbert’s social media accounts sent by Herbert via his management.
The statement reads: “I’m really sorry I am not going to be able to be with you at Reading and Leeds this year.
“We had hoped that it would have been possible but it hasn’t been.
“I need to deal with the situation I am in but promise you once this is behind me I will be making up for the lost time.
“Thank you to every single one of you for your patience and most importantly your support–keep writing to me”
Digga D was tipped to play the Chevron Stage at Reading Festival on Saturday, August 24.
