CRIMESTOPPERS has launched a new campaign in Thames Valley amid an increase in crime reporting.
The campaign aims to highlight the unique service provided by Crimestoppers in guaranteeing anonymity when reporting information about a crime.
The charity–which is independent of the police–offers an alternative when it comes to reporting crime, as reports made to the charity are passed to the police.
It has kept its guarantee of anonymity for those making reports since its inception in 1988.
It comes as the charity reports 17% rise in reports involving the counties of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire last year compared to the previous two years.
Beth Simpson, Regional Manager for the charity Crimestoppers, said: “Crimestoppers is here for people who feel unable to speak directly to the police. This may be because they fear retribution or because those involved are too close to home.
“If you know something or have a suspicion about a crime, you can tell our charity anonymously. Perhaps you think a property nearby is being used as a cannabis farm, maybe you suspect that a friend is suffering from domestic abuse, or you are aware of someone selling stolen goods.
“Whatever information you have, however small, you can tell our charity 100% anonymously. You can pass it on to us, and no one will ever know.
“We are not interested in who you are, just what you know.”
Information can be given completely anonymously to Crimestoppers in over 150 different languages, every day of the year, 24/7, by calling the UK-based Contact Centre on: 0800 555 111.
You can also complete a safe and secure online form anonymously via: Crimestoppers-uk.org or via Fearless.org for young people.
