READING Borough Council has issued a statement following the announcement that parking wardens in Reading are among those striking over pay through December and January.
Unite Union has announced members who are part of the Modaxo parking enforcement teams are set to stage industrial action amid a dispute over what Unite calls Modaxo’s failure to address concerns around rates of pay through its parking management arm, Trellint.
The council issued a reminder that there are still parking enforcers working in Reading, and that Penalty Charge Notices are still being issued.
The statement explained: “Pay negotiations are a matter between Trellint and its employees and do not involve the Council.
“The company has kept the Council informed of the situation and the industrial action being taken by members of the Unite the Union this week (December 16-22) and from 26 December.
“Trellint has assured the Council that parking enforcement will continue in Reading during these periods, albeit at a reduced level.”
Civil Enforcement Officers are currently on £12 per hour, which Unite says is significantly lower than the rate they would be paid if they were directly employed by the council.
Industrial action is set to take place from December 16-21 and from December 26 to January 1.
Only parking officers outsourced to the company will be on strike, and in-house parking enforcers employed by the council will not be on strike.
