THAMES Valley Police is currently investigating after a shop and ATM in Tilehurst were badly damaged in a suspected ram raid.

Police were called in the early hours of the morning of Tuesday, February 14, when residents noticed that the storefront of the Co-op in the precinct on Overdown Road, Tilehurst, was being attacked.

It follows two similar attacks on businesses in Wokingham, which were also believed to be ram raids, though Thames Valley Police has said that it is “keeping an open mind” as to whether the incidents are connected.

A spokesperson said: “Thames Valley Police is investigating a burglary in Overdown Road, Tilehurst, which occurred overnight.

“Officers were alerted to an ATM being attacked at the Co-operative store on Overdown Road at approximately 3.40am this morning (14/2).

“It is believed that gas was pumped into the ATM and an attempt was made to steal the machine, but the attempt failed.

“Anybody who witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam or CCTV footage from the area at around the time of the incident is urged to contact Thames Valley Police on 101 or via the force website, quoting reference number 43230068385.

“For 100% anonymity, witnesses can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
