Choral group to celebrate birthday with folk classics

AN AMATEUR choir will mark a landmark anniversary by performing ‘A Garland of Songs’ at an upcoming concert.

Parenthesis Choir is celebrating its 30th year with a concert filled with folk classics on Sunday, July 16.

Richard Harker will conduct the group through Cecilia McDowell’s A Fancy of Folksongs, John Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals, plus pieces by Purcell and Warlock.

Made up of 50 singers, the group practises at the Abbey School on Saturday morning, covering a wide-ranging repertoire which includes songs from baroque to Broadway.

The concert takes place at Abbey School, Kendrick Road, and starts at 7pm.

Tickets are £12 for adults and free for under-18s.
