VOLUNTEERS and staff from a child bereavement charity have been boosted by a housebuilder’s donation as part of their 30th anniversary celebrations in Reading.

Daisy’s Dream, founded in 1996, is the only charity dedicated to providing both pre- and post-bereavement support for children, young people and their families in Berkshire.

Based at its headquarters in Lower Earley, the charity’s work ensures that young people are helped to move forward in a positive way following the bereavement of a parent, family member or loved one, through therapy sessions either on a one to one basis or as part of a group environment.

The charity has been backed by Miller Homes Southern, with a donation of £1,250 from the developer’s Community Fund initiative which runs annually to support groups in areas near to the housing firm’s developments and regional offices.

Vicky Maunder, fundraising manager at Daisy’s Dream, said: “We are so grateful to Miller Homes for supporting the work of Daisy’s Dream with a recent grant.

“At the heart of our work is the belief that every bereaved child deserves the chance to feel understood, supported, and hopeful for the future.

Four new hubs for information, support, and advice to families and young people set to open in Reading this month

“We work with each family referred to us, to provide tailored support to help them through the toughest times.

“This can be a combination of one to one therapeutic support and group events for the children and young people, combined with over-the-phone advice for parents and carers.

“These funds will make a meaningful difference in the lives of local children who have experienced bereavement or are preparing for loss.”

Basingstoke-based Miller Homes Southern awards Community Fund donations twice annually, to groups who, typically, have a focus towards wellbeing, the environment, schools and sport.

The developer is currently building new homes at its Holme Meadows development in Wokingham, as part of a large-scale project to ultimately deliver 1,434 new homes.

Katrina Crawford, sales and marketing director for Miller Homes Southern, said: “We feel very proud to have partnered with Daisy’s Dream as part of our Community Fund initiative, and appreciate how vital donations from businesses such as our own help to fund the incredibly important work carried out by the team at Daisy’s Dream.

“We’d like to thank them for their application to the Community Fund and were very grateful for the opportunity to better understand how our £1,250 donation will be spent, in support of bereaved children.”
