Caversham United Football Club put on a spectacle for local women’s football as they hosted Reading FC Women in the Berks & Bucks Women’s Senior Cup.
Played at Mapledurham Playing Fields, the game attracted a crowd of 346 people.
Caversham made an incredible start to the match when Freya Jenkins netted in the opening minutes of the cup tie.
She almost doubled Caversham’s lead when she struck the crossbar with a spectacular free-kick.
The Royals were level in the 20th minute when Zuzanna Gajzler got on the scoresheet.
Despite being a division apart, the teams couldn’t be split in normal time which meant the game had to be decided from the penalty spot.
It was Reading who held their nerve from 12 yards as they scored all five of their spot kicks to progress through with a 5-3 shootout victory.
After an incredible successful day for grassworts women’s football, Caversham United FC took to X, formerly Twitter, to thank everyone for their support.
“A Huge THANK YOU to every single one of you who came down to Mapledurham this afternoon to watch. It was AMAZING to see about 400 people watching the game, but also for leaving our home in such good condition too. We love you!”
