Despite midwinter temperatures, a taste of the Deep South will arrive in Berkshire this weekend when Reading host Barnsley in League One at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
The League One fixture has been designated the club’s annual Louisiana Day, marking the home state of Reading’s owners Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. A range of food, entertainment and fan-focused activities are planned around the match on 24 January.
Cajun cuisine and hospitality offerings
Supporters attending hospitality areas will be offered a Louisiana-inspired menu, featuring dishes such as gumbo, fish cakes, cajun salmon and creole-style options. A special cocktail created by shareholder Todd Trosclair will also be available throughout hospitality bars on matchday.
Chairman’s box prize draw
One season ticket holder and a guest will be selected to watch the match from the Chairman’s box as guests of Mr Trosclair. The competition is open to season ticket holders, with entries closing at midday on 20 January. Winners will be notified ahead of kick-off.
Local band appearance
Reading band Only The Poets will appear at the stadium ahead of the match, signing items at the Fan Store between 12:45pm and 1:30pm. The appearance comes shortly before the release of the group’s debut album later in the month, following a recent tour of the United States.
Expanded family fan zone
The club’s Fun Zone will return outside the Eamonn Dolan Stand from 1pm, featuring an expanded range of activities aimed at families and younger supporters. Attractions include football skills challenges, reaction games, photo opportunities and large-scale family games.
American car display
Principal partner Select Car Leasing will showcase a selection of American vehicles in the Fan Zone ahead of kick-off, with staff on hand to speak with supporters.
Pre-match pyrotechnics
Players will be welcomed onto the pitch with a pyrotechnic display shortly before kick-off, scheduled to take place between 2:55pm and 3pm. Supporters have been advised that the display will include loud noises and flashing lights.
