TODAY (Saturday, August 10) Broad Street will come alive with culture from around the world, celebrating music, arts, and the diversity of Reading’s community.
The Carnival of the World sees a showcase of dance, costume, and culture from Africa, South America, Mainland Europe, and the Caribbean from international artists and locals alike.
From 2pm, Broad Street will be host to a parade of carnival costumes, percussionists, and dancers.
The event will also see performances from RASPO, Reading’s All Steel Percussion Orchestra, African drummers Mbilla Arts, Colombian dancing from Somos Chibchas, and a headline performance of soca music from Pahjo.
Khyren Kayne, Jazzrobeat Collective, Kay Bryn, Sabrina Diva, and Teshay Makeda are also set to perform, hosted by DJ Supertini Vibes
The event is organised by Reading’s own CultureMix Arts in conjunction with Reading’s Business Improvement District and Reading’s Economy & Destination Agency, supported by Arts Council England.
CultureMix Arts is a Reading-based charity which brings music education to residents and promotes African Caribbean culture, with a specialism in steel pan music.
The Carnival of the World takes place on Broad Street from noon-5pm on Saturday, August 10, and is free to attend.
