BROAD Street Mall is nurturing burgeoning talent with its first live music event running through August.
The shopping centre hosted the first event celebrating music and showcasing talent from in and around Reading.
On Saturday, August 10, it welcomed a roster of rising stars including Selina and the Howlin Dogs, and Simon Bowers.
Now its gearing up for a second showcase next weekend, when it will feature a new round of performers.
The event is the result of a partnership with Every Little Thing Festival, raising awareness around mental health issues including mental wellbeing, and suicide prevention.
ELT Festival takes place every September in memory of Diva Gibson, who lost her life to suicide on May 10, 2020.
Broad Street Mall is highlighting the importance not only of mental health awareness but also the ongoing work of Sinead Gibson, Diva’s mum, as she supports those in need.
The centre has also partnered with The Rhoom Studios for the event.
Visitors are also invited to a free workshop where attendees will craft their own festival friendship bracelets, once again hosted by arts charity Jelly.
As well as at the mall itself, BSM is hosting a number of online initiatives throughout August, including the chance to win a Headline Hamper through its social media competitions and curated Spotify playlists
Steven Connolly, Centre Manager at Broad Street Mall, said: “It was incredible to see the community coming together on Saturday for our first Broad Street Beats showcase.
“The line-up of local talent was fantastic, and we were thrilled to see so many visitors enjoying the music and participating in crafting festival friendship bracelets.
“We’re looking forward to hosting a second acoustic showcase on Saturday, 24th August, and hope to see even more people joining us.”
