A BONFIRE caused much of the Oxford Road to close on Wednesday, June 22, when it spread to a nearby building.
At around 8:20pm, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a fire on Oxford Road, with crews from the Caversham Road, Whitley Wood, and Wokingham Road stations attending.
At the scene, it was discovered that a bonfire near the Pond House pub had spread, causing a nearby derelict building to catch fire.
This led to the closure of the Oxford Road as officers worked to extinguish the fire.
There were no reports of injuries or fatalities, and Oxford Road was opened again just before 9pm.
