FOUR more Reading establishments have joined the growing ranks of venues given Best Bar None accreditation for safety and standards.

Best Bar None sees pubs, bars, and clubs rigorously audited for high standards of safety in the night-time economy, including staff and customer wellbeing, adherence to regulations and training procedure, as well as general working practises.

Now four more licensed premises have been given the prestigious accreditation: Friar Street’s Sub89 and Popworld, The Hope Tap, Back of Beyond on Kings Road, and The Last Crumb pub in Caversham’s Prospect Street

They join the likes of The Roseate, Oakford Social Club, The Botanist, and Angel Bar in getting the Best Bar None seal of approval.

Venues opt into the scheme and volunteer to be audited, and those with high enough standards are presented with an award to mark them out as safe, welcoming businesses.

It also looks to reduce crime and disorder, and encourages cooperation between venues.

Jeremy Wilkinson, the General Manager of Sub89/Popworld was delighted that his venue had been awarded the Best Bar None accreditation.

“We are so pleased that we have been recognised as a safe venue under the scheme and reflects the hard work that the management, crew and security of Sub89/Popworld have put in to reach the demanding standards required.”

Best Bar None is a joint initiative between Pubwatch, the Business Improvement District, and Reading Borough Council, designed to make Reading’s Night Time Economy a safer place to work and enjoy a night out.

Alexa Volker, the manager of the Business Improvement District (BID) said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Best Bar None accreditation scheme which promotes best practice in licensed premises and contributes to making Reading a safe place for a night out.’

Bill Donne, Secretary of Reading Pubwatch and the coordinator of the county-wide scheme, said: “Reading Pubwatch as promoters of the BBN scheme are delighted that four more venues in Reading have achieved BBN accreditation status.”

The BBN Awards will be presented to the award winners by the Mayor of Reading, Councillor Tony Page, at a ceremony to be held at the Mayor’s Parlour in the Civic Offices next week.
