PEOPLE looking to work among young people can turn to a Berkshire-wide organisation for accredited training.
Berkshire Youth is now able to offer in-person training for the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Principles.
This is an introductory qualification that has been developed with industry experts including the National Youth Agency, and embraces the National Occupational Standards for youth work.
Berkshire Youth says youth work is a rewarding career choice, providing the satisfaction of enabling young people to build their skills and confidence.
The course helps leaders engage young people to enable them to deepen their understanding of themselves, their community, and the world in which they live.
The first cohort will be for Level 2 with the opportunity to progress to Level 3.
Sarah Atkinson, chair of the board of trustees at Berkshire Youth, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this training, it demonstrates our commitment to continue to develop our organisation, ensuring we progress our offer to young people and communities across Berkshire.”
The training is being funded through bursaries from Youth Focus South East, a regional youth work unit and is open to anyone aged 14 and upwards, who is interested in youth work and currently volunteering with young people, or as part of the course you will start volunteering with young people.
Berkshire Youth Chief Executive Sarah Emery said: “To be able to offer this face-to-face training is very exciting for Berkshire Youth.
“Whether you are a school leaver, volunteer or looking for a career change, this training will help you progress within the vital, vibrant sector of youth work. It has never been more important or pertinent that we continue to offer our services in Berkshire.
“Our young people need us and they are our future.”
