BASTILLE Day celebrations returned to Forbury Gardens last weekend, marking the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille.
It is observed by many all over the world as the national day of France, with Reading’s event offering food, drink, and performers showcasing what the country has to offer.
This year it welcomed Historia Normannis, a 12th-century living history group, who host events and educational visits through re-enactment, knight’s tournaments, and archery, woodwork, and metalwork displays.
They were joined by performers Baron Black, Sandy Madsen Meye, Mathilde Wierciock, MAloé, and Elodie Siby, as well as food offerings from Wolseley Street Bakery, Taste of France, and Lila’s Kitchen.
Organiser Vincent Valere said: “It was very successful; one of the best so far.
“It was very enjoyable seeing all of the families coming down and take part, despite a bad forecast for Saturday.
“Thankfully it cheered up on Sunday, giving it all a very positive vibe.”
He explained: “Since we started, it’s been getting better and better– everybody knows about the Bastille Day event now, and I’m proud that it has continued.
“It feels like an achievement to have brought something to the town for so many years, so I think we can be proud of that.
“It will continue for a few years, and hopefully we’ll be able to bring something to the town centre.”
