READING will keep motoring through any cold snaps this winter.
That’s the promise from the borough council.
Last week, the Local Government Association warned that some councils will face difficulties gritting roads due to the shortage of lorry drivers.
In recent months, a number of councils have paused some waste collections due to the problem, and the LGA fears this could be replicated as temperatures hover above freezing.
David Renard, the body’s transport spokesperson, said: “While most councils have been able to keep services running, some may find that their gritting services are affected in the same way that some have seen waste collection services impacted.
“As they do every year, councils will be working proactively to plan ahead and ensure that their winter services are as resilient as they can be.”
And Reading Borough Council thinks it’s ready to go should Jack Frost make an early arrival.
A spokesperson said: “Reading Borough Council’s contractor has a full compliment of drivers and does not envisage any driver shortage throughout the winter season, or having any difficulties delivering the winter gritting contract requirements.”
