A GYM in Reading has been closed following a reported break-in and arson.
The Atrium Health Club in Tilehurst posted to social media early this morning (Friday, January 30) to announce that it would be closed following the incident.
It was reported in a statement that at around 2.30am the gym was broken into and a fire was started.
The gym will not be open while active investigation continues.
The post was accompanied by a photograph of a fire engine outside the premises.
The statement explained: “We’re devastated to let you know that the gym was broken into and set on fire at approximately 2:30am this morning. At this time, the building is an active crime scene and and unfortunately we will not be able to open the building for use today.
“We’re incredibly sorry to everyone who was planning on coming down today and for the disruption this causes to your routines.
“The safety of our members and staff is our top priority. We are working closely with the relevant authorities and will be in touch as soon as we have further information to share.
“Thank you for your understanding and support.”
Thames Valley Police and Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
