ONE of the greats of the English cricket team is swapping bowling for fielding … fielding questions about his career.
Monty Panesar is preparing for an interview event at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford.
Known as much for his terrible fielding in his early days as for his world-beating left-arm spin, Monty helped England to become the number one Test team on the planet.
Born in Luton, he played 50 Test matches for his country, took 167 Test wickets, saved an Ashes Test with the bat alongside Jimmy Anderson, claimed Sachin Tendulkar as his first Test wicket, won a Test series in India, was friends with Shane Warne and captured the public’s imagination with his joyous celebrations.
For his evening at the Yvonne Arnaud, he will be in conversation with LBC presenter Matt Stadlen.
The evening will look at being the first England spinner to take a five-wicket haul at the WACA, and explain what it was like bowling at places such as Tendulkar, Dravid and Gilchrist.
Other topics include the pressures of Ashes cricket, the support of the Barmy Army, how he hit Muralitharan for six, and his verdict on this summer’s Ashes?
The event takes place on Thursday, August 10, from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £20, or £13 for concessions.
