A MURDER investigation has been launched after the body of a man in his 70s was found inside a home in Reading.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.
Thames Valley Police said that they were called to an address in Elgar Road just after 8.10pm yesterday evening (Wednesday, December 1), and have launched an investigation.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Howard of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Tragically, following a call to an address in Elgar Road, a body has been located and a murder investigation has been launched.
“We are in the very early stages of this investigation, but an arrest has been made in connection with it.
“Formal identification has not taken place, but the victim’s next of kin have been notified and are being offered support by specially trained officers.”
He continued: “My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends.”
A large scene-watch is has been set up in Elgar Road, and there will be an increased police presence in the area for some time while the investigation continues.
“Understandably, this incident will cause great concern in the local community, but at this early stage of our investigation, we do not believe there is a wider risk to the public and believe that the victim and offender are known to each other,” DCI Howard said.
“If anybody has any concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to one of our officers.
“I am appealing to anybody who has been in the vicinity of Elgar Road on 30 November or 1 December and witnessed or heard any disturbance or saw an altercation to please contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting incident reference 1958 of 1 December.
“I would also urge anybody who was driving in the area to please check your dash-cam and get in touch if it has captured anything that may assist in this investigation.
