In the tight competition to see who will be crowned champions in Reading’s Table Tennis division 1, Kingfisher A made no mistakes sweeping aside Tidmarsh A 10-0. They now need 17 from their remaining 20 possible points against Kingfishers D and E to be assured winners, while Kingfisher B are still to face Kingfisher F.
Elsewhere Sonning Sports’ Rob Hansell inflicted a 3-0 defeat over Daniel Moses of Sonning Common & Peppard A, the evening ending in a 5-5 draw. The same result occurred at Tilehurst RBL A who hosted Kingfisher D with Mike Childs remaining unbeaten. The mid-table clash between Kingfishers F and E resulted in a 6-4 win for the F team with Prayrit Ahluwalia undefeated. The Kingfisher C trio of Harry Yeates, Pallavi Urankar and Phil Mead ran out convincing winners over bottom-placed Sonning Common and Peppard B 9-1.
In division 2 Tidmarsh B boosted their title hopes with a 7-3 win over a Sonning Common and Peppard C team who were only able to field two players. Tidmarsh’s Barry Carter’s two sets went to five and in the closest he recovered from two games down to win 11-9 in the fifth against Holly Ranson. Our Lady of Peace A’s title hopes took a knock when they had to play two reserves in a 7-3 defeat against Kingfisher I with Huzeyfe Borazan and Eyup Odemis getting maximums for Kingfisher. Our Lady of Peace B had a 7-3 win over Kingfisher H which make relegation very likely for the Kingfisher team. Sanket Dave and Binit Bhaskar recorded maximums with the closest set of the night seeing Sanket edge past Ajay Yesi 11-9 in the fifth.
In Division 3 Sonning Sports B continued their strong form with a 7-3 victory over Our Lady of Peace D where Brett Hastings was in top shape with a treble. The same night, Tidmarsh D and Pangbourne WMC played out a 5-5 draw in a match full of momentum swings. Clive Taylor led Pangbourne with a treble, while Chris Webb contributed two key wins for Tidmarsh. At Pearson Hall, Sonning Sports C secured a 7-3 win against Tilehurst Methodists A. James Miller claimed another treble, backed by Cris Reynolds and Himanshu Pasbola. Jes Eassom offered some resistance for Tilehurst with two victories. This result has made the danger zone even more uncertain with the final sets of matches still to be played.
Congratulations to Springfield B who have assured the division 4 title. They cleaned up 10-0 at Sonning Sports E as Marcello Caramma, Steve O’Connor and Benson Shiu excelled. Kingfisher L are almost certain of runners up spot as they added another seven against Sonning Common and Peppard F with yet another maximum from young Pehej Vig. Tilehurst RBL C will no doubt finish in fourth as they convincingly beat a two-player Springfield C 9-1 and finally Kingfisher K dealt a 7-3 blow to Our Lady of Peace F as Houron Tsun and Walter Aldridge combined effectively.
