Reading FC legend Brynjar Gunnarsson is reportedly being considered for the current vacant manager’s role at League One Burton Albion.

Gunnarrson made his name as a Reading legend and is the only player to have won the Championship with the club on two occasions.

He joined the Royals from Watford in 2005 and made 29 Championship appearances and scored four goals as Steve Coppell’s side won promotion to the Premier League with a record breaking total of 106 points.

He remained with the Royals for eight more seasons and won promotion again in the 2011/12 season as Brian McDermott’s team reached the top flight.

He racked up a total of 163 appearances in all competitions and 10 goals for the Royals and retired from professional football in 2013.

The former Iceland international has now been linked with the vacant role at Burton, who are currently bottom of the League One table.

BBC Radio Derby have reported that Gunnarrson is one of the names being considered to be the new Burton manager.

Gunnarrsson started his coaching career in 2017 as assistant coach of Icelandic side Stjarnan. He then joined as manager of Handknattleiksfélag Kópavogs (HK) for four years and also managed at Swedish side Örgryte Idrottssällskap in 2022.
