Mostly G&S to perform The Gondoliers

A MUSIC group is getting ready to entertain audiences with their production of a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta.

Mostly G&S will perform The Gondoliers, the story of two newly married Venetian boatmen, both of whom are told they might be the heir to the throne of Barataria.

Marco and Giuseppe Palmieri are ordered to rule jointly until the identity of the true heir becomes clear.

Their wives, both anxious to be queen, want to know whether one of their husbands will have access to a royal mender of the socks.

A comic meandering tale, punctuated by humorous songs leads to the eventual solving of the mystery, and a happy ending, with the correct heir to the throne revealed.

Reading group Mostly G&S enjoys singing operettas, especially the works of WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan, Franz Lehár, Johann Strauss and Jacques Offenbach.

Their production of The Gondoliers can be seen at The Oakwood Centre, Woodley, on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November 7, 8, and 9, at 7.30pm.
