Former Reading FC duo Omar Richards and Nelson Abbey were able to celebrate European success as Olympiacos won the Europa Conference League.

The Greek side made history by becoming the first ever Greek team to win a major European trophy as they defeated Italian club Fiorentina in the final.

Richards was an unused substitute, while Abbey was not included in the matchday squad.

Richards, who made104 appearances for the Royals, left the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2021 before signing on a free for Bayern Munich.

After signing for Nottingham Forest a year later, he joined Olympiacos on loan for the 2023/24 campaign and has made a total of 15 appearances in all competitions, including two in the Conference League.

Meanwhile, Abbey started the 2023/24 season with Reading and broke into the first-team with some spectacular performances.

Having played a total of 31 games for the Royals, which included captaining the side, Abbey was sold to Olympiacos in January as the club looked to raise funds to fix their financial issues.

Since joining the Greek team in January, the 20-year-old defender has played four times, but did not feature in Europe.

Abbey said in an Instagram post: “History made. OLYMPIACOS… no words. So proud of the boys.”

Richard posted on Instagram: “CHAMPIONS!!! Very proud of this team… History has been made. Olympiacos you deserve this.”
