Back in the day … in my 20s,

I was temping at 3M … when

Come home-time, I needed a push

To get my old Mini started again!

And they said:

“Keep your revs up, no matter what you do,

Mightn’t be anyone to bump-start you!”

Off I went and I have to say:

My nerves were all of a jangle!

I hadn’t long passed my driving test,

So the stress was hard to handle!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

It was gorgeous sunny weather,

As I headed out of town!

I was enjoying the breeze … with

my car-windows rolled right down!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

I drove over a small humpback bridge,

And got one helluva of a shock:

My windscreen was obscured by a

swathe of sparrows, flying in a flock!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

Somehow I managed to keep driving,

In a split-second the sparrows had gone.

I was, truth be told, quite shaken …

… a bit of a close call, that one!

(Chorus)

“keep your revs up etc

But it turned out,one of the sparrows

Hadn’t flown away after all!

He was there in my rear view mirror,

Damn! ….I slowed right down to a crawl!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

He was fluttering on the back seat,

It’d be fine if he just stayed there,

But then he started hopping around:

It was becoming a right nightmare!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

The sparrow landed in the footwell,

And that gave me pause for thought!

I pulled up … but kept the car running,

At this stage, it was all very fraught!

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

I only had two doors on my old Mini,

So I flung them both open-wide!

And got out to apologise:

“Sorry, there’s a loose bird inside!”

(Chorus)

“Keep your revs up etc

The sparrow had seized his moment

And escaped to look for his friends!

The bloke behind looked disappointed …

And that’s where this anecdote ends!

Except to say, “Girls, in your twenties,

Don’t worry! No matter what you do,

There’ll always be blokes aplenty,

More than happy to bump-start you!”
