A CHARITY celebrating four decades of rescuing stray and abandoned cats in Thames Valley held a fete on Saturday, July 1.

Thames Valley Animal Welfare hosted the event which raises vital funds for itself and for the Grange United Reformed Church through stalls, activities, competitions and games.

The event also saw a special guest appearance from ITV Meridian Tonight’s Sangeeta Bhabra joining attendees at the church.

The event raised more than £1,000 which will be split between the charity and the church.

Organiser Ann Wells said: “We raised £1,015, with around £800 going to Thames Valley Animal Welfare, and just over £200 going towards the church.

“Of course the highlight of the event was our special guest, Sangeeta Bhabra, who has been to the Grange a few times before, but it was lovely to have her back.

“It was also lovely to see so many people coming to take part from the local community, and the home-made cakes stall went very well indeed, as it always seems to.”

She continued: “It’s the first time we’ve held a summer fete for many years, as we normally hold a big Christmas fete.

“But I recently became involved with Thames Valley Animal Welfare, and so we wanted to raise funds for them as well.

“It’s all to do with the ongoing costs of caring for the cats; when we have cats in foster care, we have to feed and care for them, which means vets bills, and we also get all the cats neutered before they’re rehomed.”
