Matt Rodda has been appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to Hilary Benn.
Hilary Benn was appointed Secretary of State for Northern Ireland by PM Kier Starmer following the election earlier this month.
Benn has been a sitting MP since he was elected in Leeds South in 1999.
In that time he has served as Environment Secretary, Secretary of State for International Development, and Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.
Parliamentary Private Secretaries act as assistants and are considered the “eyes and ears” of their appointed ministers within parliament.
Rodda is not the only Reading MP to have been appointed PPS, as Olivia Bailey, MP for Reading West and Mid Berkshire, was also appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Liz Kendall.
Following the appointment, Mr Rodda said: “I am delighted to have been appointed and I am looking forward to supporting the Northern Ireland Secretary as his PPS.”
