A READING man has been jailed for four years for drug offences and racially-aggravated public order offences.
Namar Tyrer, 22 and of Lyndhurst Road, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at Reading Crown Court last Friday, April 19.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the supply of both class A and Class B controlled drugs, namely cocaine and cannabis, at the same hearing.
He also pleaded guilty to a count each of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply, namely cocaine; racially-aggravated intentional harassment, alarm, or distress; and criminal damage, also at the same hearing.
It follows an incident which took place on August 3 last year, when officers saw Tyrer interacting suspiciously with known drug users in Cressingham Road, Reading.
Tyrer was stopped and searched by officers, who found two mobile phones, two bags of cannabis, and £350 in cash.
Officers then searched Tyrer’s home, where they found a mobile phone, three SIM cards, and around £1,000 of cash.
He was subsequently released on police bail, until December 20 last year, when plain-clothes officers witnessed Tyrer interacting with two children suspected of selling drugs on Shinfield Road.
Officers approached to conduct a stop and search on Tyrer, who attempted to flee the scene but was caught.
He was searched and found to be in possession of £2,805 in cash and a quantity of cocaine, as well as a mobile phone.
Following his subsequent arrest, Tyrer kicked one of the rear passenger doors of the police car, causing damage, and used a racial slur against one of the officers as well as being verbally aggressive.
He was charged the following day.
Investigating officer PC Eric Harcup, of the Reading Problem Solving Team, said: “We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our communities and will actively and persistently target those who seek to take advantage of them, such as drug-dealers like Namar Tyrer.
“We need the support of the public to tackle illegal drugs supply though so please get in touch via 101 or our website with any information that might help us.
“You can also provide information to us anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via its website.
“Lastly, we will never tolerate our officers or staff being racially abused so it’s right that Tyrer has been brought to justice for this offence too.”
