A racing driver from Wokingham is continuing his battle for a championship title, following further success in his latest race.
24-year-old Bobby Trundley is autistic, and is a driver for Team BRIT, the world’s only competitive team of all-disabled racing drivers. On Saturday 9th August he competed in round 5 of the Britcar Endurance Championship at Donington Park Circuit.
Bobby is paired up with Asha Silva, who is also autistic, and together, they have dominated their class in recent rounds, finishing P2 in this latest race.
After testing on Thursday, Saturday began with qualifying in the morning, with Asha securing a P2 start for the pair. At the start of the race, technical issues meant they had their work cut out to remain competitive, but they pushed on, bringing their BMW M240i home second in class.
This podium finish means they have further extended their overall championship lead.
Bobby was diagnosed with severe autism as a child and found a love of motorsport through karting at age 10. He found it to have a profound impact on the way he manages the challenges of autism, and went on to become a 5 x national karting champion before joining Team BRIT in 2019.
Bobby said: “It was a challenging but brilliant weekend for us. Asha and I were setting great lap times from the start. Asha got us a P2 in qualifying, which was a fantastic way to start the day. However, once we settled into the race we had a few issues where we were losing power for a brief second every so often, which was costing us around three seconds a lap.
“The team tried their best to fix it but the problem persisted. I drove the car as hard as I could whilst being aware of the technical issue and managed to bring the car back in P2, which cements our championship lead so far – a massive bonus.
“We’ll be back at Snetterton for the next race and I guarantee we’ll be fighting for the win in our class.”
Bobby races again at Snetterton on 13th September.
