The organisers of a winter light trail coming to Reading town centre soon are gearing up for the event to take place.

Illuminate Reading is a brand new light trail coming to Forbury Gardens and the Abbey Ruins this winter.

The trail will feature dazzling lights, an ambient light tunnel, a food and drink area and more.

A listing on the What’s On Reading website states: “Experience Reading’s newest winter light trail and immerse yourself in a magical light trail around the grounds of Forbury Gardens & Abbey Ruins this winter.

“Follow a 30 to 50 minute route filled with beautiful light installations that transform the park & ruins into a glowing seasonal display.

“Walk through the grounds and take in the sights as you explore different areas designed to highlight the historic landscape and surroundings.

“Towards the middle of the trail, you’ll find a food and drink court offering a variety of sweet treats, hot drinks, including mulled wine, hot chocolate, and soft drinks.

“At the start of the trail, you can enjoy marshmallow toasting and warming drinks to accompany your visit.”

Illuminate Reading will take place from Saturday, November 15 to Sunday, January 4, 2026.

Ahead of the event beginning, the organisers have applied for a licence to sell alcohol, including mulled wine, to Reading Borough Council.

The organisers have applied to sell alcohol from 4pm to 9.30pm each day that the event will run.

A statutory consultation into the application is currently live. You can respond by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for responses is October 20.
