The father of former Reading FC player Jayden Wareham, Darren, has posted a message to fans after receiving ‘hate’ from certain sections of supporters.
Jayden, who played for Reading from 2023-2025 before he rejected a new contract offer with the Royals in favour of joining Exeter faced his former employers for the first time since leaving at the weekend.
He netted Exeter’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw and proceeded to celebrate in front of the Reading fans by folding his arms before being congratulated by his teammates.
Taking to TikTok, his dad said: “There was a lot of hate thrown to myself personally and my family. We were sitting right next to the Reading fans so obviously that was going to happen. Just for clarification, we sit there every single home game it wasn’t just because the Reading fans were there.
“Everything that happened between me and the Reading fans is mostly just banter, but some people take it too far which is just weird and childish.
“It was a really good game, Exeter in the first-half were dominant and should have gone in winning two or three. The second half was the opposite so 1-1 was probably a fair result.
“It was inevitable Jayden was going to score yesterday (Saturday), it was a fantastic finish. “Big love to the Reading fans, they’ve always been fantastic and follow their team up and down the country, mostly selling out every week. I’ve got no issues with them, I’d say 90% of them are top drawer, it’s a great fanbase.”
Jayden also posted on Twitter and said: “Great to see some familiar faces. Happy to be on the scoresheet again. Good to see the Reading players and staff and fans again wishing you the best for the rest of the season.”
