A crime scene cleaner from Reading has revealed the worst parts of his job in a new Channel 4 documentary series, Crime Scene Cleaners.
Mark Cainey, a crime scene cleaning specialist from Reading with 20 years of experience in the field outlined what he believes is the worst part of the job and the most traumatic incident he has had to attend.
Crime Scene Cleaners brings viewers rare access into the extraordinary lives of professional crime scene cleaners, a group of unsung heroes who encounter people’s worst nightmares on a daily basis.
Pulling back the curtain on this vital work, the show follows expert teams in both the UK and the US through dangerous and difficult situations, as we get to know the characters behind the hazmat suits.
Mark explained the horror of a tragic incident that he once attended where a dog had attacked an infant.
He said: “The worst part about being a crime scene cleaner, I think, is what you’ve got to actually blank out, and that’s the demise of other people – what they might have went through before their demise.
“I’ve also done a dog attack on a child. That has got to be, definitely, the worst one I’ve had to deal with. It’s the only child attack I’ve had to deal with.
“It was a newborn. The dog just got frustrated and attacked the baby. The best thing to do, I always find, is never look at people’s pictures. You don’t look up around the walls; you just situate on where you’ve got to clean.
“In that situation, you don’t want to see a picture of the baby. You’d come home not feeling so great that day.”
To watch the series, all episodes can be streamed on Channel 4.
