THERE are tails to be told and paws for thought thanks to a little animal magic at the Hollies Care Home.
Residents regularly receive some furry unusual visitors including a white pony, a three-legged rescue dog called Pig and a less than hairy bearded dragon.
Matt Seabourne said the magnificent menagerie always receives a zoo-per response from both residents and staff.
It began when Matt brought his black Labrador, Nala, along for a visit and was immediately asked when she would return. Since then, various other animals have trotted, scampered and scurried into the Burghfield Common home.
Edith Monk, 102, was so delighted meeting Nala she invited her to have a rest on her bed: “It’s just lovely when Nala visits. She’s so beautiful and it’s good to have a cuddle,” smiled Edith.”
Another regular is Pig the three-legged Spanish rescue dog.
A staff member explained: “She used to be called Roma but she would eat everyone’s food so the name Pig just stuck. She belongs to a local lady, Charley Henkey, who brought her to Hollies. She brings so much joy and everyone just loves her.”
A bearded dragon called Elliot also fires up residents, including 100-year-old Edith Turner who exclaimed: “Oh, he’s just gorgeous isn’t he?”
Yasemin Ucan, the home’s manager, said: “We are committed to promoting a happy environment at the home, and Nala’s visits and those of the other animals, perfectly aligns with our vision.
“It is especially great for the residents who formerly had pets of their own, and brings back fond memories which they are able to reminisce about.”
