Reading FC fans have given their reaction after the club released an AI generated video to promote their fireworks display in their next home match.
The Royals recently became the first professional football club to officially appoint a head of AI.
The club released a promotional video on Thursday evening which depicted club chairman Rob Couhig giving a message encouraging fans to come along to the team’s game against Rotherham United on Saturday which will also feature a fireworks display.
However, there has been a mixed reaction from fans to the use of AI.
One fan said: “Please never use AI slop again, truly gross.”
Another added: “Forget the BS. Just provide a team that produces fireworks on the pitch.”
Another said: “f the ownership thinks this is a good idea and will win over English football fans then I seriously lose trust in their decision making on everything else. Just so unbelievably out of touch and not needed at all.
However, some fans did also react positively.
One supporter said: “This has to be aimed at our new grassroots audience, and it worked. My young kids never watch any Reading videos but they saw this and the first thing they said was “What’s that video you’re watching?” How many young fans would be interested in RC actually talking into a camera?
Another added: “For all those complaining.. Let this sort of stuff slide! Because of Rob (Couhig) we still have a club!”
