THE NHS in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire has administered more than six million Covid-19 jabs since the start of the vaccine programme in 2020, figures show.
It comes as vaccinations are once again ramping up ahead of the winter season which sees a rise in hospitalisations and cases.
Eligibility for this year’s winter vaccination programme has changed, so the NHS is recommending that patients check their eligibility before making an appointment.
Those eligible are those who will be aged 75 and over by January 31 next year, those whose immune system is weakened due to a health condition or treatment (aged over six months), and those in care homes for older adults.
Sarah Bellars, Chief Nursing Officer at the NHS BOB Integrated Care Board which commissions health services in our area, said,: “Delivering more than six million Covid-19 vaccinations is a fantastic achievement and reflects the dedication of NHS teams and partners right across our area.
“We are proud of the protection this programme has given to people at greatest risk.
“Covid-19 can still cause serious illness, especially for older people and those with weakened immune systems.
“We are asking people to look before you book your vaccine and help to protect yourself, your loved ones and the NHS this winter.”
People in these groups can book their Covid-19 vaccination through the NHS App, the National Booking System or by calling 119.
