A NEW convenience store could be opening near Reading’s railway station if approval for an alcohol licence is granted.
Sainsbury’s wants to launch a Local store in Brunel House, Station Road – the ground floor used to be home to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).
The licence would permit it to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises from 7am to 11pm daily.
The company has two other stores within walking distance: in Broad Street and Friar Street.
It also operates from Calcot and Winnersh, while a Sainsbury’s Local branch on Shinfield Road – built on the site of the former Maidens pub – closed last year and was replaced by Indian supermarket Honey and Ghee.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service have asked Sainsbury’s for more information about its planned new store.
A consultation into the plans for the licensing application runs until Tuesday, July 9. Comments, which are publicly accessible, can be made by emailing: licensing@reading.gov.uk.
