READING Buses is celebrating one of its drivers following their nomination in the UK Bus Awards.

The company’s Star of the Year, Alma Cox, has been shortlisted for the Top National Bus Driver award ahead of the event set to take place in November.

Alma, who lives in Reading, was put forward by the company after being the first person to win their internal Star of the Year award twice.

Reading Buses was also shortlisted for a further two awards: Top Shire Operator, which they won last year, and Marketing for Growth.

The Marketing for Growth award shortlisting is for the company’s popular Windsor Express routes, The London Line 702 and Flightline 703 which have seen growth over the last few years thanks to striking branding and some key marketing targeted at both tourists and commuters alike.

The company will also potentially compete for the title of Bus Operator of the Year if they win the Top Shire Operator.

The company lost the top award to fellow municipal operator Nottingham City Transport last year.

Reading Buses is also celebrating a shortlisting for Will Dawson from their sister company, Thames Valley Buses, in the Unsung Hero category for his work in their Engineering department.

Robert Williams, Reading Buses’ Chief Executive Officer, said: “We are thrilled to be shortlisted for three awards at the prestigious UK Bus Awards, but are especially thrilled for Alma.

“She has worked for the company for over 25 years and her enthusiasm and sunny disposition remains undimmed.

“She consistently receives lots of customer compliments, her mystery traveller scores are always excellent and she always scores highly on our internal driving measurements.”

“We are looking forward to the awards, and we have everything crossed for Alma as well as for Reading Buses itself.”
