The Green Community Award, Measurable Reading, sponsor Tomato Energy.
An energy-saving company which concentrates on “small power” has designed a plug socket to minimise carbon emissions and help customers cut electricity bills by a fifth.
Measurable Energy was founded in Reading in June 2018 with a mission to save businesses from wasting energy, says its nominator for The Green Community Award.
Its new plug sockets work by recognising devices, monitoring their energy consumption, and automatically switching them off when they’re not needed, said the company’s nominator.
“The focus is on small power, which is the electricity used by equipment like monitors, printers and hot water taps – that are plugged in via power sockets or ‘fused spurs’,” they added
Small power accounts for around 40 per cent of total electricity usage in most commercial and office buildings with up to half wasted as devices are left on or in standby, said the nomination.
“There is nothing not to love about Measurable Energy, they are a sustainable business with a mission and vision to help the world be a greener, cleaner place for all.
“The epitomise the Green Community Award Category as a business that is fully focused on saving energy resources and committed to green initiatives. Having worked with them a couple of times, I can confirm that they are also a seriously nice bunch of humans,” they said.
The Green Community Award Sponsored by Tomato Energy celebrates communities that are making their neighbourhoods greener and cleaner; individuals, community groups and businesses that have implemented a project that has saved resources, implemented green initiatives or introduced successful recycling or upcycling.
