An American fast food chain is hoping to sell food and drink until midnight in Reading town centre.

Wendy’s opened to much fanfare in Reading in the summer of 2021. Since then, it has been operating from 7am until 10pm from Monday until Thursday, between 7am until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 8am until 10pm on Sundays.

Now, the operators want it to stay open until midnight each night.

This marks a change from its hopes to open until 2am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Last year, Wendy’s submitted plans to open from 6.30am until 2am between Thursday and Saturday, but those plans appear to have been shelved for now.

In order for Wendy’s to serve food and drinks past 11pm, it requires a licence from Reading Borough Council.

Although the company won planning approval to open from 6.30am to 2am Thursday to Saturday last November, it requires licensing consent to operate at those times.

Wendy’s has not submitted a licensing application for service at any time past midnight so far.

Representatives for Wendy’s have not replied to requests for comment.

To comment on the application for food and drinks sales until midnight, email licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for responses is Friday, April 5.
