THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a road traffic collision lead to the death of a 60-year-old man in Reading.
Just before 6.40am this morning (Wednesday, November 26) a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a vehicle on the A4 Bath Road, close to the Lidl superstore.
The pedestrian, a man in his 60s, died of his injuries at the scene.
A 41-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and remains in police custody.
The road has been closed for investigation work; police say the road is likely to remain closed between Mill Lane and Hogarth Avenue for “several” more hours.
Investigating officer Sergeant Matt Cadmore, from the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This tragic incident has occurred at the start of the rush hour in Calcot.
“I am making an urgent appeal to anybody who was in the area and witnessed the collision, or who may have dash-cam footage of the incident to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.
“I would also like to thank those who helped at the scene in the early moments following this collision.
“The man’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. My thoughts and the thoughts of all of us at Thames Valley Police are with them that this extremely distressing time.”
