A new independent pizzeria has announced it will be opening in Reading later this Spring.

Following on from winning the UK National Pizza Award and being voted 38th best artisanal pizza brand in the world, Zia Lucia will be bringing four types of pizza dough to Reading.

The new site in St Mary’s Butts will, according to the company, have the Italian charm of all their other restaurants, with a seated capacity of 50 including outdoor seats.

The materials used will reflect the style of the kitchen and dining room of the real aunty Lucia, recreating a cosy and warm feeling with a sixties twist.

It will also feature a hand crafted pizza oven as the centrepiece of the restaurant.

Since its inception, Zia Lucia has become renowned for its impressive selection of 48-hour slow-fermented doughs, including traditional white flour, wholemeal, gluten free and vegetable charcoal black base.

Its black pizza won the UK National Pizza Award, and has become synonymous is London with generating queues.

Reading will be the first restaurant to open outside of London, and is part of Zia Lucia’s plans to open four additional sites throughout 2024.

Zia Lucia is run by a team of passionate Italians. Founders and friends, Claudio and Gianluca were keen to share their enthusiasm for the finest Italian produce creating an iconic dish done well.

Commenting on the decision to bring Zia Lucia to Reading, Claudio said: “We were thrilled when we found this site, and cannot wait to bring our black pizza to Reading.

“We believe this town will match perfectly with our community style dining, and moderately priced, delicious traditional food.

Gianluca added: “Genuine pizza, homemade appetisers and desserts, paired with our own craft beer and Italian style cocktails and coffees, served in a friendly and relaxed environment is what we are all about.

“We are constantly overwhelmed by the passion our customers show towards our four pizza doughs.

“Watch out for a new pizza dough, which has been developed for the new opening!”

To celebrate the exciting new opening, Zia Lucia will bring a new type of pizza dough, developed especially for Reading.

Zia Lucia, translates as ‘Auntie Lucia’ and the restaurant is inspired and named after Gianluca’s very own aunt.

A fantastic cook and generous host, Lucia is the inspiration behind the brand.

Entirely friend and family-funded, Zia Lucia’s shareholders are personally involved in the success of the restaurants.
