A man has been jailed for more than two and a half years following a Thames Valley Police investigation into drug supply offences in Reading.
Neal Akhtar, 40, of Church Grove in Fleet, Hampshire, admitted possessing heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine with intent to supply, as well as driving while disqualified. He entered his guilty pleas at Reading Crown Court on Friday, 14 November.
He was sentenced at the same hearing to two years and eight months in prison.
The offences came to light on 11 June 2025, when officers stopped a red BMW convertible being driven by Akhtar on Kingsley Close in Whitley at around 11:30 BST. Police detained him for a drug search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Akhtar was found carrying heroin, crack cocaine and cocaine with an estimated street value of £1,250. Officers also reported seeing him smoking cannabis at the time of the stop, which prompted a further search of his home.
A subsequent search uncovered additional quantities of class A drugs worth about £4,600, along with packaging linked to drug distribution. Checks also revealed that Akhtar was disqualified from driving.
He was arrested and charged the following day.
PC James Dunwell, the investigating officer, said the case showed the harm drug supply causes within communities, adding that Akhtar had shown “no regard” for its wider impact.
“As a result of this investigation, we have taken thousands of pounds’ worth of drugs off the street,” he said. “We will continue to work proactively to disrupt drug supply networks, and information from the public plays a vital role in helping us do so.”
Thames Valley Police urged anyone with information to contact the force on 101 or via its website. Details can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
