A MAN has been jailed for an incident of grievous bodily harm in Reading.
Lucio Moreira, aged 31 and of no fixed abode, was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to section 18 assault occasioning GBH with intent in a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Friday, July 7.
It follows an incident which took place on Oxford Road on September 30 last year.
At around 10.45pm, the victim was walking along the road when he was approached by Moreira, who engaged him in a short conversation.
He then slashed the victim across the face and chased him along Oxford Road, leaving the victim with a wound to his face.
Moreira was arrested and charged on November 1 last year.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Philip Marchant, of Reading CID, said: “This was a violent assault on a man where the victim suffered serious injuries as a result of Moreira’s actions.
“We are resolute in our determination to make our communities safer by removing knives from our streets.
“Violence has absolutely no place in our communities and Moreira is now rightly behind bars where he will have significant time to reflect on the damage he has caused.
“My message to the community is if you have any information about anybody who is carrying a knife, please report this to us, either on 101 or by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
