THAMES Valley School has commended students joining those around the country in collecting their GCSE results today.
Staff and families came together to recognise the achievements of Year 11, who have each completed a programme of study tailored to their individual goals, needs and interests.
The school, which supports autistic children and young people in Reading, is part of the Liberty Academy Trust, and subjects studied this year included English, Maths, Science, Art, Computing, and Hospitality.
As well as working towards formal qualifications, students have also been supported in developing the skills and confidence they need to move on to further education, college courses, or other post-16 options.
Among those celebrating is Kian Chapman, who leaves Thames Valley School as a positive role model for the TVS school community.
Kian undertook Entry Level 2 Sports Leaders, Entry Level 2 Catering, GCSE English, GCSE Maths, GCSE Science, and an Arts Award.
TVS has commended his great commitment to his exams and coursework, embracing the revision process with determination, and inspiring those around him with his attitude.
They explained that, over time, his approach to learning has grown significantly, reflected in his perseverance in subjects he once found challenging.
Kian now looks forward to studying catering at a local college, with ambitions of becoming a qualified chef in the future.
Miles Gauguier is also celebrating after he worked towards achieving GCSE Maths, GCSE Science, GCSE Computer Science, Foundation Stage Level 1 English, a Bronze Arts Award, and Entry Level Geography.
Throughout his time at TVS, he has “shown resilience and perseverance, demonstrating hard work” towards his exams and coursework.
His commitment to improvement and willingness to develop have been commended, and enabled him to overcome challenges with confidence.
Looking ahead, Miles plans to continue his education at a local agricultural college, building on his strengths and determination to succeed.
Headteacher Gemma Buley said: “We’re really proud of all our students today–their results are a fantastic reflection of their hard work and commitment over the past few years.
“Each student has faced their own unique challenges, and today we celebrate how far they’ve come.
“This success is thanks to their efforts and to the dedication of our staff and families who work so closely together to support them.”
Nic Crossley, CEO of Liberty Academy Trust, said: “Well done to all the students at Thames Valley School.
“Their results are more than just grades, they’re a sign of real personal progress. With the right support, autistic young people can achieve great things, and today is a clear example of that.
“I wish every student well as they begin their next chapter.”
