Fears are beginning to grow that Reading FC Women may not be able to compete in the Women’s Championship next season due to financial issues.
The Royals have been in a long ongoing takeover process as current owner Dai Yongge looks to sell the club.
However, the drawn out process sees the club still up for sale after exclusivity with an unnamed party, which was signed in March, expired at the start of the month.
The clubs ownership made the decision to switch the women’s team to a part time model from last season after they suffered relegation from the Women’s Super League to the Championship.
It is believed that the Football Association is working with the club to try and find a solution.
However, the club may have to drop down the football pyramid to try and reduce costs.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that the women’s age group academy teams may not be able to operate next season. As a result, parents have been informed that there may not be a place for their child next term.
It has also been reported by the Guardian that the senior team has as few as two senior players contracted for the next campaign.
