The family of a little girl in Reading is trying to raise thousands of pounds to give her a better life.
Dumitrel Gaureanu, 37, a Tesco lorry driver from Theale, has made a desperate plea for financial help to provide life enabling for his daughter, Crina who is a year and three months old.
Her birth came with complications, which Mr Gaureanu has explained.
His wife was experiencing birthing pains, with a triage nurse suggesting taking two paracetamol to ease the pain.
The couple were later told to go hospital, but Crina’s mum went into labour before they could get there.
Mr Gaureanu said: “Crina suffered a lack of oxygen for more than 20 minutes till 999 services arrived.
“I had four ambulances in front of my house.
“She had no pulse, no heart rate, she was blue, she had no oxygen. The air ambulance managed to take my daughter and give her seven minutes of CPR.
“It’s because of them she is alive.”
She then spent two weeks at the John Radcliffe and 66 days at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in intensive care at the Buscot Neonatal Unit.
Mr Gaureanu said: “Most babies don’t survive such trauma, but our daughter has proven she’s a fighter and doesn’t want to give up.
“We’re not about to either, especially after the doctors at John Radcliffe Hospital suggested we consider disconnecting her from the machines that were keeping her alive. We firmly said no!”
Crina has been diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) Grade 3, relating to the lack of oxygen at birth, cerebral palsy and dystonia.
He is now asking for £60,000 on a trial treatment provided only in India and at Monterey in Mexico, where he is planning to take Crina.
The treatment is not approved by the NHS yet.
The request involves £35,000 for the treatment, and the remainder on expenses for the long stay required.
On the difficulties the family experienced, he said: “We couldn’t enjoy the moment of having the baby.”
An update provided by Mr Gaureanu on July 22 states that Crina was readmitted to hospital due to difficulties swallowing, with medics discovering a lung infection.
The family are committed to the treatment to help give Crina the chance of having a better life.
Mr Gaureanu said: We’re not giving up! She hasn’t given up! From the first hours of her life, our daughter taught us how to fight, and now it’s time to fight even harder. Any amount is welcome!”
The family is seeking help to fund Crina’s treatment on GoFundMe.
More than £3,000 has been raised so far.
