MORE THAN 130 people took the plunge in aid of charity, raising more than £30,000, last week.
On Sunday, June 22, participants took part in the Open Water Swim Event.
Attendees of the event took to the water at Bray Lake, raising £33,000 in aid of Thames Hospice’s charity work.
Among them were 10 staff members of the charity, including Dr Patrick Clarke and Senior Staff Nurse Marta.
The funds raised will support the organisation’s work providing palliative and end-of-life care as well as emotional and wellbeing support.
Among those taking place was Amber, who swam in memory of her aunt, Alix Burnage.
She said: “I swam 5k for my aunt, Alix, who was an incredible swimming teacher at St. Pirans School.
“I know she’d be proud of me for taking on this challenge and incredibly grateful I’m raising money in her name for the Hospice.”
Emma Andrews, Events Fundraiser, said: “The dedication and spirit of every swimmer were truly inspiring.
“Their incredible efforts, and the generous support of our community, have made this year’s Open Water Swim an outstanding success.
“Every pound raised will help us continue to provide essential care to those who need it most.”
