READING Biscuit Factory is set to chill the blood in the summer heat, with a selection of short horror films, including work from local filmmakers.
Curated by local award-winning writer-director Stephen Graves, I Scream: Short Horror Films for Summer Nights, features a diverse selection of short films by independent filmmakers.
“We are so happy to once again welcome back Stephen and his seasonal night of horrors,” said: James Ireland, assistant manager at Reading Biscuit Factory.
“It’s wonderful that we can continue to host these popular indie shorts.”
The line-up of nine short movies includes The Auteur, by local filmmaker Bethany White.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to have my short screened at Reading Biscuit Factory,” Bethany said.
“I went away to study film in 2015 and when I moved back to Reading in 2023 I was so delighted to find that the film community was thriving, especially through a new independent cinema – with such a great name.”
“Short films are the lifeblood of independent cinema, providing a space where ideas can be tested and inventiveness pushed beyond the constraints of financial viability which is so often a barrier in features.
“To have a space for people to come together and share that passion and creativity, such as a screening like this, is something we should cherish and nourish.”
Also included in the line-up is short film, Eric, by writer-director David Yorke.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be screening at Reading Biscuit Factory,” he said.
“Eric is a darkly playful short about a guy, a date, and her beloved dog who might not be quite what he seems.
“It means a lot to have it shown here – it was made with love, mischief, and maybe a little paranoia.”
I Scream brings together a wide variety of short films from across different horror genres.
“We’ve aimed to include a range of sub-genres so there’s something for every horror fan,” said curator Stephen Graves.
“I Scream has everything from found footage and sinister sci-fi to killer meditation apps – and one lethal Pomeranian.”
He added: “We’ve got more frights planned for later in the year, so stay tuned.”
